Raupp Memorial Museum
In 1994, the Buffalo Grove and Morton Grove Park districts came to an agreement to hire a full-time curator for both museums. The Raupp Memorial Museum is working to expand its educational offerings. These programs will include a new state-of-the-art Distance Learning Center, a "Park Voyagers" program to develop a museum-going habit among children and their families, and a new "Expanding Our Reach" program to expand current classes into classrooms and meet the educational demand for these programs. The museum will also expand its Discovery Workshops for School and Community Groups.
The new Educational Center will allow the museum to expand its current educational offerings, introduce new exhibits, and expand educational programming. In addition, the museum will create an interactive web site and create an "On-Line Naturalist" program to increase public participation in its Nature Center programs. The museum's new site also includes the relocation of the historic Balzer House, which will replace the museum's former location. The relocation includes interior and exterior renovations.
The final phase of the capital expansion project will include building repairs, the installation of a museum-quality HVAC system, and a climate-controlled structure for the U-505 submarine exhibit. It will also include elevators and plumbing upgrades. The museum will have the opportunity to open its doors to traveling exhibits.
