The village's Founders fought to keep the country-like character of the area and its natural beauty. Among its notable residents is Dr. Edmund Kimberly, founder of Rush Medical College. His eldest son married Theodore Roosevelt's cousin, and it is said that Teddy Roosevelt visited the Kimberly family home to meet the family. Barrington is a lakeside community located in Lake County. The town was once an important trading center for dairy farmers. At one time, dairy farmers roamed the oak-covered hills and marshlands to the north of the city. These marshes prevented the town from growing much farther west. However, in the 1920s, estate development moved northward, with the private country club Biltmore. The North Barrington Association was formed in 1934 by these estate residents.
