North Barrington, Illinois is a village in Lake County, Illinois. Its population is 3,171 as of the 2020 census. The village is primarily residential. It has many parks and golf courses, and residents enjoy the beauty of Lake County. The area is also known for its excellent schools. The village is located just outside of Chicago.

The village's Founders fought to keep the country-like character of the area and its natural beauty. Among its notable residents is Dr. Edmund Kimberly, founder of Rush Medical College. His eldest son married Theodore Roosevelt's cousin, and it is said that Teddy Roosevelt visited the Kimberly family home to meet the family. The city is primarily located within Cuba Township, and it is served by School District 220. However, part of the community is located in Ela Township, which serves Lake Zurich School District 95.

Barrington is a lakeside community located in Lake County. The town was once an important trading center for dairy farmers. At one time, dairy farmers roamed the oak-covered hills and marshlands to the north of the city. These marshes prevented the town from growing much farther west. However, in the 1920s, estate development moved northward, with the private country club Biltmore. The North Barrington Association was formed in 1934 by these estate residents.

The average household income in North Barrington is $249,361. The poverty rate is 4.85%. The median price of a home in North Barrington is $638,700. Home appreciation in North Barrington has been 2.4% in the last decade and 11.0% in the past 12 months. In other words, the city is growing at a moderate rate, but it is not a growing town.

As of the 1990s, the population of North Barrington was approximately 2,500. Because of its low density, the town had limited municipal services, such as police and fire protection. The town also tried to increase the residential tax base. It also approved plans for an upscale shopping mall on the eastern side of Rand Road, north of Lake Zurich. However, this project was resisted by long-term residents.

Residents of North Barrington should be aware of the village's zoning regulations. Golf carts are allowed on public streets, but owners must register them with the village. The Village Code also requires drivers to have a driver's license and liability insurance. The village offices are open Monday through Thursday, from 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.

The village has a diverse population. Twenty-one percent of the population is under the age of eighteen, while only 4.2% of residents are 65 and older. The median age is 43 years. Males outnumber females by almost two hundred to one. More here
